Ronald E. Delanois, M.D.  is a board certified,  fellowship trained orthopaedic surgeon who  brings over 10 years of experience with complex hip, knee, and shoulder reconstructive surgery to the Rubin Institute for Advanced Orthopedics.   His emphasis is on the diagnostic, arthroscopic and joint preserving procedures affecting these joints. He served 18 years in the United States Air Force, the last eight as the Division Head of the Adult Reconstructive Service at the Naval Medical Center Portsmouth.  Dr. Delanois has joined Michael Mont, M.D. and his team to deliver advanced orthopaedic solutions to their patients who suffer from a multitude of joint aliments.

Dr. Delanois specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of both young and older adults with:

Focal and diffuse cartilage damage (e.g., Traumatic and degenerative arthritis)
Bone and joint infections (e.g., osteomyelitis, and infected total joints)

Joint preservation techniques (e.g., high tibial osteotomies, ligament reconstructions and arthroscopy)

Shoulder pain and instability (e.g., Rotator cuff tears, fractures around the shoulder, labral tears, arthritis and shoulder arthroscopy and replacements)

Hip pain and arthritis (e.g., hip arthroscopy, infections, and replacements)

He has performed thousands of arthroscopic and reconstructive procedures. He is involved with the latest cutting edge technology that allows the patient to return to a full and active lifestyle in the shortest amount of time. Dr. Delanois believes in conservative management as a first line of defense whenever possible. This involves educating the patient and their families on non-surgical as well as surgical techniques available, oral medication, injections, and physical therapy. When surgery is indicated, Dr. Delanois believes in doing joint-preserving procedures first. This allows the patient a faster recovery as well as a quicker return to a normal life.  Dr. Delanois is particularly interested in focal cartilage loss. In the hip, he employs the technique of hip arthroscopy for the diagnosis and treatment of hip pain.  In the knee he uses techniques such as high tibia astronomies, unicompartmental knee replacements, and cartilage transplantation.

Dr. Delanois is very active in the advancement of orthopaedics. He is well published and currently sits on the Hip Subcommittee at the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons where he is responsible for evaluating and grading hundreds of posters, abstracts, and papers. He has mentored and taught over 30 orthopaedic residents in adult reconstructive surgery and he was awarded the Outstanding Academic Teachers award by his residents.  His current research interests include osteonecrosis, joint preservation techniques, and the improvement of wear in hip and shoulder replacements.

Delanois, M.D., obtained his medical degree from the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences.  He then did his orthopaedic training in the Air Force at Wilford Hall Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas.
